Skating Home at dusk

What: May 16th, the infamous Thursday Night Skate Session.
The Players: Jerry, Nancy, Maria, Andrew, Jim, Dan, Sean, and myself.
The Time: Three waves; two of us met at 5:30, one at 6:30, and the rest at 7:00.
The Location: With the beginnings at the Eastside Esplanade parking lot, we skated to Sweetwater’s Jam House in Southeast, and up through Laurelhurst Park.

Dan and I began the first wave of skaters at 5:30 to catch the restaurant’s spring celebration which included happy hour drinks and Cuban/Jamaican hors d’eouvres, live steel drums and jazz keyboards by the notorious Janice Scroggins, and lots of people!

Sean joined our reverie at the restaurant at approximately 6:30, and then the 7:00 group peered their faces in the window of the restaurant a short time later! They continued their skate onto Laurelhurst Park while we stayed and waited for some extra table space to open up, which it did not.

Michelle trying to convince us that she should stay and wait for a larger table to open up, Jim to her right is counting his winnings from a previous bet that Michelle wouldn't be skating.

Upon their return, we decided to boot up and continue all together. Before heading back we diverted to an address on Hawthorne where I had an errand, and then, Portland bound, we skated Hawthorne, then peeled off into the Ladd’s Addition neighborhood, then crossed down towards the Waterfront, again dividing up into smaller groups: those who went home, those who stayed to talk, and those who completed one last loop around the Waterfront/Esplanade.
It was a magical, balmy spring evening with no more than a few sprinkles here and there, great company, great music and a great skate! I’m glad you all made it to the restaurant. Thanks guys! Cheerio! Michelle
